On the cinematic art of the soul - Alfred Hitchcock as a psychologist

7 October, 19:00 - 20:00

Web Lecture 2
Prof. Dr. Dirk Blothner

Direct and mediated

Hitchcock knew what a strong presence direct forms of enforcement have in human coexistence. In his films he let the effect of obsessions that could hardly be influenced shine through impressively: Delusion, power, compulsive sexuality are the antagonists with which mediated forms of cohabitation struggle. They break into the cultivated forms of psychic reality and try to orientate them according to their image.

Excerpts from probably the following films: Maze of Passion, Young and Innocent, The Stranger on the Train, Always Trouble with Harry, Vertigo, Marnie.

Further dates each Wednesday 19:00 h: 14.10.; 21.10.; 28.10.; 4.11. 2020.
