On the cinematic art of the soul - Alfred Hitchcock as a psychologist

November 4, 2020, 19:00 - 20:00

Web Lecture 6
Prof. Dr. Dirk Blothner

Lust and art of the climax

Film is a metamorphosis of images experienced in the here and now. We can hardly get out of it and we don't want to until the animated design directions have found a conclusion. Hitchcock has made it his mission to create the strongest, most ludicrous and most intense highlights in film history. The structure of the whole thing was immensely important to him. He knew how to heighten unleashed emotions and how to lead them towards a climax that would revive and at the same time resolve everything. In this final lecture we will discuss some of the most impressive highlights from Hitchcock's films.
Excerpts from the following films: The Man Who Knew Too Much, Notorious, The Invisible Third
